Meet yOur Guide

Ahhh, the smells of West Indian food – the many-layered scents of curry, BBQ, stews, grilled seafood and deep fried dough.

Walking the streets of Charlotte Amalie in St. Thomas can be torturous if you have an appetite.  At least that’s what your tour guide thinks.

So please be forgiving if you schedule a walking tour around lunch time – there may be a few “diversions” to a food cart or two.

Your Tour Guide:

I’m Island Mike.  I’ve been living and working the mean streets of Charlotte Amalie for 15 years now.

I moved to St. Thomas to practice law in 2009.  I spent 2 years as a prosecutor and then 18 months working as an attorney for an insane, Australian millionaire.  While trying not to lose my mind practicing law, I met the most beautiful island girl in the Caribbean and married her.  It was either the water or the rum, but we spent the next 6 years popping out 4 children.

In the meantime, I finally escaped the legal game and stumbled into the wedding business.  I’ve spent over 12 years officiating and planning weddings (I still perform about a 100 weddings a year) and now I focus on my other passion – guiding guests through the historic town of Charlotte Amalie.  I love sharing the insane and varied stories of this island.

When I first moved here, I was obsessed with the pirate history of the island.  I’ve since gone deep on all aspects of the island – slavery, sugar, war, murder, movies and food.  I also consider myself a bit of a Danophile (sic?).  I love all things Danish.  The Danes owned the islands for the better part of 3 centuries.  Their language, culture and festivals.  So I like to refer to Charlotte Amalie as my “Lil Copenhagen”.  And so I can give you a little taste of Euro-Carib culture too.  Truly, this little island is so much more than just beaches and boats.  🙂

I can’t wait to hang out, swap stories and show you the amazing town and history of Charlotte Amalie!
