What to Expect
Step into 350 years of Caribbean history on a walking tour like no other. This experience was created in collaboration with Danish and Virgin Islands historians and is the only tour that includes access to Fort Christian and a newly restored Slave House.
We begin with a visit inside Fort Christian, the oldest standing structure in the Virgin Islands. As we explore this military fortress, you’ll wind through centuries-old passageways, descend into the dungeon, and climb to the ramparts, where breathtaking views of the Charlotte Amalie harbor await
These are the same vistas that Danish governors and soldiers once scanned during pirate raids and fierce invasions.
We’ll continue on our stroll through the town of Charlotte Amalie and learn about the history and culture of the islands while visiting some of its most iconic landmarks.
You might find yourself standing in front of Hotel 1829, a grand 19th-century merchant’s mansion, or climbing the legendary 99 Steps, built from bricks once used as ship ballast. Along the way, we may visit one of the oldest synagogues in the Western Hemisphere, admire centuries-old churches, or peek into the past at the former estate of General Santa Ana, whose name echoes from both Caribbean and Mexican history.
Our final stop is truly special: #13 Wimmelskafts Gade, a beautifully preserved former slave’s quarters, now home to the island’s beloved 3 Queens Distillery.
Enjoy a complimentary rum punch cocktail while you go behind the scenes and learn about the rum-making process and sample the distillery’s flagship rum.
